About Wyndell Williams: You may ask, why the cat?

Picture
I was born into a family of water well drillers in the small town of Broadway Virginia many years ago. I developed an interest in art from my Mother who was always interested in arts and crafts. I received a BFA in art from James Madison University in 1983 with an emphasis on painting & glass. While attending JMU, one of my  painting teachers, Jerry Coulter, became a big influence for my artwork.  Working with joint compound I build up surfaces and then refine them by carving, sanding and painting the surfaces with acrylic and oil paints

However, glass still held a bigger draw for me. I took a summer class at Pilchuck Glass School where an unknown dude told me that I looked like I'd like glass blowing. I watched a demo, and that was it, spending the next 15 years devoted to glass blowing. I attended Pratt Fine Arts and Penland School of Crafts, before opening a  public-access studio in Washington, DC.

My glass blowing and paintings tend to reflect everyday items that aren’t immediately thought of as potentially beautiful, but which can be made so by looking at them with an artist’s eye. The back end of a truck, the front end of a scooter, a bulldog and story-telling stones fit in with this vision.
